Why "Valley's View"?

Names have meaning.  My given name is Valerie.  I have always loved my name.  It means "strong; valorous" and I like to believe that those words describe me.

Everyone called me Val--my family and friends--except for my maternal grandmother, who always called me Valley.  One day (at the precocious age of seven) I asked her why she always called me that.  She explained that when I grew up, she would call me Valerie, but while I was a young girl, she would call me Valley.

Well, almost 60 years of life have passed since then.  My husband and I have 8 grandchildren---three who call me Grandma Valley!

So, this grandmother is writing down her random thoughts and memories and, with a loving nod to my grandmother's special nickname, I now offer Valley's View!

Welcome.

*Valerie is almost always a feminine given name in English, derived directly from the French Valérie (a female-only name). Valerie is also used as a nickname for Valeria. Both are often shortened to Val.
